A post came across my facebook the other day from The Dirty Diaper Laundry feed about a Flat and hand washing challenge. You can find out more info here, http://dirtydiaperlaundry.com/take-the-flats-and-handwashing-challenge-may-23-30/
Essentially what it is, it is a commitment to use only flat diapers and to handwash them and line dry them for 1 week. The goal is to show that cloth diapering can be affordable and very easy to do. You must only use Flats, a flat is essentially a giant square of fabric that can be folded a number of ways then worn like a normal diaper. I didn't have any flats on hand so I have been spending the afternoon sewing some up. It was actually very easy, I already had tons of flannel lying around so I just measured my squares to be 30"x30" and then serged all 4 sides and that's it!
I plan to use the camp washer method for my hand washing routine. I need to pick up a lid for my bucket and a plunger, I already have an accordion style drying rack to use.
After the challenge is over I plan to donate the flats I have made to a local organization in need of cloth diapers.
Stay tuned and follow me on this brave adventure!!
